BICP Role
Provided preliminary scheme consultation, technical review, detailed design, and professional construction services.
Key Conditions
Phase I of the Liaocheng Qilu Food Distribution Hub, 1# cold storage warehouse. Column grid: 12.1m × 12.7m with post-tensioned flat slab. Live load: 20 kN/m². Floors: 1 mezzanine + 5 above ground. Plan dimensions: 83m × 150.6m.

Project Challenges

Traditional cold storage column grids are too small, limiting rack layout, forklift movement, and automation upgrades. Expansion joints, beam depth, and insulation area affect construction cost, usable storage capacity, and operational energy consumption. Need to coordinate structure, insulation, racking, and operational efficiency during the design phase.

03

Proposed Solution

Adopted a 10–14m large-span post-tensioned flat slab structural system. Optimized expansion joints for buildings up to 120m in length. Flat slab reduces floor-to-floor height and insulation area, increasing usable storage capacity and reducing energy consumption. 3D BIM coordination with racking systems during planning to accommodate future mechanization and automation.

Project Details

BICP provided the Taiku solution for 1# cold storage.

Project Overview: Located in Chiping District, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province, the hub aims to integrate regional agricultural resources and establish a modern food distribution network covering Shandong and neighboring provinces. The total planned investment is RMB 1.13 billion, with a total floor area of 124,500 m². Phase I covers 121 mu (approx. 8.07 hectares), and Phase II covers 125 mu (approx. 8.33 hectares). Facilities include a headquarters complex, cold chain storage and distribution center, sorting center, and smart cloud warehouse. The 1# cold storage warehouse is a typical Taiku project, featuring a 12.1m × 12.7m column grid with post-tensioned flat slab design.

Cold Storage Design Features: Mezzanine + 5 floors; plan dimensions 83m × 150.6m; column grid 12.1m × 12.7m; live load 20 kN/m².

Key Achievements: The large-span flat slab design enables efficient rack layout and automated operations. Usable storage capacity increased by 19%.

Why Taiku? Three advantages: (1) Space utilization: 12m large column grid reduces columns by 30%, increasing storage capacity by approximately 20%. (2) Efficiency: Expansion joint-free design improves operational efficiency. (3) Cost savings: 60 cm reduction in floor height per level lowers construction costs.

BICP has completed 300+ cold storage projects.
