Technical judgements depend on project conditions
The floor and structural approaches described on this site are technical directions. The conclusion for a specific project is reached once the following conditions are available.
- Structural system: column grid, spans, loads, clear height, building services, construction sequence and local approval requirements.
- Floor system: geotechnical data, temperature regime, loads, subbase condition, operating and maintenance practice, and acceptance criteria.
- Existing floor repair: cause of damage, test results, zoning of the defects and the shutdown window available.
- The application pages describe common correspondences; projects within the same facility type may still follow different technical routes.

Who is responsible for what
An industrial building is delivered by several professional parties. The following describes the part BICP carries and the division with adjacent disciplines.
- Formal design, statutory approval and review by the responsible parties are completed by those parties.
- Equipment foundations, vibration isolation, anti-static and functional surface layers are handled by the corresponding specialist trades.
- Refrigeration and thermal insulation belong to the building-services and envelope disciplines; BICP contributes as a cold-store systems specialist and refrigeration works are carried out by the relevant specialist.
- The floor system and the main structure are designed, accepted and accounted for separately.
International engineering responsibility
BICP provides engineering analysis, technical consulting and concept / specialist design support. Where local regulations require a registered, licensed or chartered engineer (or engineer of record) to sign, seal or take statutory responsibility for the design, final project design and statutory approval remain subject to review and acceptance by that locally licensed engineer or engineer of record. BICP's deliverables are technical inputs to that process.
- BICP deliverables are analysis reports, design concepts, specification inputs and technical recommendations.
- The local design team and the engineer of record integrate those inputs into the project design and carry the statutory design responsibility where local law requires it.
- Where a project needs signed and sealed structural documents, BICP works alongside the locally licensed engineer; it does not replace that role.
- Site supervision, testing, inspection and acceptance follow the procedures of the project and its jurisdiction.

- The scope of service is material supply together with the quality records for the supplied products.
- Commitments are limited to material quality, specification limits, batch records, delivery response, inspection records and the scope agreed in the contract.
